Building Economics (QSB3214)

The lectures for this module is Mr. Ho June Khai and Ms. Dianne Kok Hui Wei.

The topics covered under this subject are as follows :

Introduction to Building Economics
Concept of Cost Control,
Cost Modelling,
Design Economics,
Cost Analysis & Cost Data,
Detailed Cost Planning,
Investment Development Appraisal, and
Whole Life Costing

This subject has taught me how economics revolve around construction which usually starts from the inception stage up to occupation of the building. As costing is very important to the client, it is our duty to advice the client as to what is worth his money.

Building Economics lecture consists of 3 hours and the tutorials consists of 1 hour, every week for 14 weeks.

There is a mid-term for the module, an individual assignment , a group assignment and lastly, the final exam. The group assignment is closely related to real-life situation whereby we were asked to revise the cost plan in order to achieve a lower cost. The individual assignment on the other hand, asks us to advise the client on the best tenderer (out of 3) given the few conditions.
